How is the Natural Breast Augmentation Procedure Performed?
Natural Breast Augmentation is accomplished through fat transfer, a surgical procedure that can also be used for Natural Buttocks Augmentation. Fat transfer involves two separate procedures within the same surgery. First, the fat is gently harvested from various areas of your body using the BodyJet, an advanced water assisted liposuction technique. The fat is processed and then reinjected into the breasts using special tubes called canulas. The entire procedure is done while you’re awake using mild sedation and tumescent fluid for adequate numbing of the areas treated.

What is the Post Operative Period Like?
After the procedure is performed, you must where a breast support for several weeks. In addition, you will not be able to sleep on your breasts for this may cause excess pressure on the fat which could reduce survival. The area will be swollen, bruised and tender, but these changes all go away and are lessened with the use of ice packs. Most people resume normal activities within a few days after the procedure.  You will be given complete post-operative instructions at your pre-operative visit with Dr. Serrao.

Is this procedure approved or is it controversial?
Many surgeons remember the poor results that used to occur in the past when fat transfer was used. We now have improved techniques and technologies that help maintain the survival of the fat. Thus, better survival of the fat results in longer results. One such technology is the BodyJet LipoSculpture technique that harvests the fat in a more gentle fashion.  Recent clinical studies have shown up to an 90% fat cell survival rate from natural fat harvesting with BodyJet Water-Liposuction technique.

Will the Fat Reinjected Survive?
Using newer technologies, most of the fat does survive. Many times one sees 60% to 85% fat survival. However, some women may need second or third procedures of fat transfer to continue to restore adequate volume within the breasts.

Does the Fat Grafted Result in Abnormal Calcifications Noted on Mammography?
Fat transferred to the breasts can result in the formation of calcifications within the breasts, which can cause interference with mammograms. However, newer studies have proven that newer digital mammograms can easily evaluate calcifications in the breast.  Dr. Serrao recommends that his patients have a baseline mammogram.

Who is the Best Candidate for Natural Breast Rejuvenation?
Anyone who desires augmentation of their breast size in a natural manner is a good candidate. Natural Breast Augmentation is an ideal option for the woman who has lost fullness in her breast due to age, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or breast feeding. Only a modest increase in size, such as a 1 cup size increase, can be expected from this procedure. You must have an adequate amount of fat on your body for the fat harvesting technique. In rare instances, he may suggest that you gain a few pounds for adequate fat harvesting and Natural Breast Augmentation.
